We are not a sleepy southern town anymore, with a few places to stop when headed elsewhere – Montgomery has become a destination. We are a busy, active and thriving city of The New South, with a united goal of continuing this momentum.
Young people are choosing to return to Montgomery or choosing to stay here because there is a pride of spirit and a spirit of renewal in our historic city. They are working at established businesses, starting new small businesses or moving here searching for opportunity and a fresh start. They are doing so because Montgomery is a great place to raise a family, and we offer all the things that bigger cities do, while maintaining a hometown atmosphere.
All across Montgomery, almost everywhere you look, there is progress. New businesses are springing up, we are recruiting new industries to town, and nearly every day there are new opportunities for people to make a better life in our city.
Montgomery has numerous family venues, and over the last six years we have added the Bark Park at Shakespeare, upgraded the Planetarium, added new attractions to the zoo and developed Wright Brothers Park – enhancing one of the most important gateways to Montgomery. And, we now have more fun events like the marathon, the Dragon Boat Races and many more events organized by neighborhood associations, churches and private businesses.
We have wonderful event venues featuring big–name entertainment at MPAC and the Coliseum Entertainment Districts downtown and in Cloverdale; plays at the Shakespeare Festival and Cloverdale Playhouse; world-class dining options; and cool neighborhood restaurants, eateries and bars. And, in the last 6 years we have renovated and enhanced many of Montgomery’s sports venues including Cramton bowl. These efforts have resulted in a significant increase in Montgomery being the host city for more regional sporting events and a long-term deal with ESPN to host the Camellia Bowl.
And, let’s not forget the Biscuits!
Montgomery, Alabama is poised for greatness and the enthusiasm is infectious. I’m blessed and honored to be your mayor at this moment. Let’s continue working together to make Montgomery great.
Making a difference. Together.
